6 January 2017
Just five days before the opening game of the 2017 World Championship against Brazil at AccorHotels Arena, France won its first warm up match against Slovenia in Toulouse. Nothing was easy for the Bleus, as the Slovenian team went toe-to-toe with the last World Champion for more than 50 minutes. Driven by a superb Kentin Mahé (13 goals), France finally took over in the last minutes (29-27).
“Our defence won the game. We still have a lot of things to improve”, said Guillaume Gille, co-head coach of the French team, to beIN Sports after the match. “We made several little mistakes, this will have to be adjusted in Montpellier”, added the other co-head coach Didier Dinart, already looking towards the second friendly game against Slovenia (on January 8th in Montpellier), just like all the French team.
