16 January 2017
While the pros are competing the 2017 IHF Men’s Handball World Championship until 29 January, the best U17 handball players will start their own World tournament Monday, 16 January, known as “Mondialito 2017”.
The former “Mediterranean Championship”, which will start its 14th edition Monday, brings 12 national teams together and will be played in two regions in eastern Paris: Pontault-Combault in Seine-et-Marne (Roger-Boisrame gymnasium) and Le Plessis- Treviso, in the Val de Marne (Philippe-de-Dieuleveult omnisports area).
Alongside with the U17 French team, Pool A will host Poland, Switzerland, Spain, Turkey and Qatar. Germany will face Italy, Montenegro, Tunisia, Iceland and Argentina in Group B.
The semi-finals between the first two of each group will be played on Friday, 20 January in Pontault-Combault. The final and the bronze medal will take place at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris on Saturday 21 January (17:30), as a curtain raiser for the eighth-finals of the 2017 World Championship. Coached by Pascal Person, the U17 French team, who won the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2015, is clearly one of the favourites.
