BRAZIL WANTS TO CONFIRM
Already champions in 2006 and 2008, under the guidance of Spanish technical expert Jordi Ribera, the Brazilians carried o their third continental win on 19th June in Buenos Aires, winning the Pan-American Championship at the expense of a surprising Chilean side. Dominated for a long time by Cuba and then Argentina, the “Auriverde” have demonstrated that they have now put together the best team in the New World. Brazil reserved its place for the 2017 World Championship brilliantly, participating for the 13th time. The Brazilian team reached the last sixteen in 2013 (Spain) and in 2015 (Qatar), before the best performance in its history at the Olympic Games at home: the team reached the quarter-finals after convincing wins in the first round versus Poland and Germany. It ended up losing to the French team that it faces on the 11th of January for the opening match of the World Championship…
DID YOU KNOW?
After leading the Brazilian selection between 2005 and 2008 and from 2012 onwards for the Rio Olympics, Jordi Ribera of Spain will be present again at the World Championship, but on Spain’s bench. His good results with Brazil in Rio (quarter-finals) have indeed convinced the leaders of the Iberian Federation to entrust him with taking over from Manolo Cadenas. Washington Nunes will lead Brazil in France.
